The second session of ESoDoc – European Social Documentary, a training initiative financed by the EU MEDIA Programme, will take place from July 11 till 17 in Berlin-Brandenburg. ESoDoc is financed by Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg and supported by MEDIA Antenne Berlin-Brandenburg, HFF “Konrad Wolf” and Greenfilm.

ESoDoc takes up the challenge of bringing together the demands of different players now involved in documentary film production. Across the spectrum these are: independent documentary film makers and producers; non-governmental and non-profit organizations (NGOs and NPOs); television broadcasters and New Media.
ESoDoc aims to create a new professional in the expanding sector of social documentary, building a bridge between documentary films, NGOs, TV and New Media.

Together with our financers and supporters, we would like to invite the film-makers, web documentarists and other interested persons to the Premiere of the latest film by the Canadian video-activist and ESoDoc's trainer Katerina Cizek. The author will be present and will introduce the film.

7interventions-fir.jpg The National Film Board of Canada placed media maker Katerina Cizek “in residence” at Toronto’s inner-city St. Michael’s Hospital, renowned for innovation in patient care and research. The result is a collection of multi-platform documentaries that prove digital storytelling can work as a tool for social action. Young, homeless mothers problem-solve through “video bridging.” Community-based care saves lives in southern Africa. Suicide intervention therapy and film animation intertwine. Throughout, doctors, nurses and media makers work together to create transformative tools.

The 7 Interventions of Filmmaker-in-Residence charts the project’s five-year history, investigating the creative process from within as media makers join doctors, nurses, researchers and patients at the front-lines of urban and global health. Filmmaker-in-Residence is now recognized around the world as a model for social, cinematic and creative innovation.

International prices won by 7 Interventions: Webby Award 2008 (Oscar of the Internet); Canadian New Media Award 2007; Banff Television Award 2008; nominated: Grierson Award for Innovation and UN Summit Award.
